West Bengal Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (WBAPS)

The West Bengal Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (WB-APS) has been introduced in March 2024. The WB-APS aims to enhance apprenticeship training by providing financial support to apprentices, thereby promoting skill development and employment among the youth of West Bengal. Effective from the financial year 2024-25, the scheme includes trainees from Vocational Training Centers in Schools and Madrasas, ITI and Polytechnic graduates, Yuvashree Scheme registrants and non-technical candidates with at least five years of schooling from affiliated institutions within West Bengal are eligible.

Benefits to the departments/PSUs/Parastatals:

1. Additional Workforce: Apprentices provide additional hands.

2. Non-compulsion of ESI/EPF: ESI/EPF are not mandatory for Apprentices.

3. No obligation for Permanent Recruitment: Employers are not obligated to permanently recruit apprentices.
